There are alternatives to incarceration. Christ taught mercy, against hypocrisy and cruelty, two factors at play. And for our part, in scripture, Ephesians 5:11 commands us to act – our actions as Christians truly do matter and define and shape us. Indeed, God rewards good action tremendously, and gives us happiness, satisfaction, and fulfillment. And now this is the reward in store for “fighting the good fight”, to quote Paul. Ephesians 5:11 states explicitly “Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them.” The gentleman behind me is currently serving a life sentence with no possibility of parole for mere possession of marijuana, holding no violent criminal history. It is time we stand up to corrupt or self-interested politicians and hold our vote hostage to their doing the right thing for once – since as Abraham Lincoln stated, Might makes Right.
