We are not meant to be complacent in the face of evil.
Ephesians 5:11 states, “Take no part in the worthless deeds of evil and darkness; instead, expose them.”
We have an OBLIGATION to expose them. And 1 John 3:8 says that “For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.”
Take this gentlemen behind me. He has been subject to a grave injustice, when the Mississippi Supreme Court upheld his conviction for possession of marijuana – a LIFE sentence, till his death. He was 38 years old, and only committed two non-violent prior crimes 15 years before the home burglary that he had served time for. The grave injustice is that he will never have a chance of moving beyond the confines of a cold prison cell and taste even a bit of freedom in his entire life, making him oppressed and subject to other’s control – tantamount to property – merely for owning marijuana.
What can we do? Definitely speak out, but that’s the start of it. State and federal laws can retroactively change their prospects – laws and statutes contravening unjust, inhumane, and evil sentencing – as can Federal pardons.
Let us pray for the 350,000 drug offenders incarcerated in federal and state prisons, and keep up the fight not only in prayer, which absolutely is effective and works, but also in words, deed and truth. For it is Christ, when beginning his ministry, who quoted Isaiah in mentioning the freeing of captives.
